CEAP Goals

(as finalized and approved by the CEAP at the April 9 meeting)

  1. Identify and implement top-priority environmental initiatives with measurable objectives.

  2. Educate and engage each segment of the community in environmental initiatives that fit their needs.

  3. Create a vehicle for communication, education and awareness among the City and all segments of the community.

  4. Leverage resources and actions among segments by aligning and coordinating efforts.

  5. Connect with expertise, input and initiatives from the community and beyond to inform, improve and inspire innovative ideas and programs.

  6. Track and report progress toward objectives to the community.

At the March 5th, 2008 CEAP meeting, participants contributed and voted on modifications to these goals.  Results may be reviewed here:CEAP Mission & Goals - Results from 3-5-08.doc.pdf

Goal 5 says "Invite expertise..." We have also talked about the importance of actively influencing those beyond the boundaries of CEAP, at regional, national and global levels. Where does that show up in the goals? I think a change to that effect was suggested at the April 9 meeting.

I like the change in Goal 5 which now uses "connect with" instead of invite to acknowledge the importance of outreach as well as acquisition of expertise. Outreach has to be an important part of what CEAP does. Our ultimate goal, let us not forget, is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. We are ahead of most communities in organizing to act. As we do so, we should help other communities leverage what we have done. The impact our community could have through leadership might greatly outweigh our direct GHG reductions!
